In a post on Instagram, the seven-time champion stressed that it was an honor to have Sebastian Vettel as a rival, but even more to be able to call him a friend. The Briton said he is sure that whatever the German does next will be something significant

Lewis Hamilton said that Sebastian Vettel leaves Formula One better than he found it when he debuted in 2007. The Briton declared his love for the Aston Martin star and said he was honored not only to have him as a rival, but also as a friend.
Vettel announced on Thursday (28), at the age of 35, that he will end his career in the World Championship at the end of the 2022 season. Last week, the four-time champion had expressed his interest in renewing his contract with Aston Martin, but justified that he wants to spend more time with his family.

By Instagram, Hamilton reproduced the video in which Vettel, a newcomer to the social network, announced the end of his career, and wrote a text dedicated to his friend.
"It was an honor to call you a rival and an even greater honor to call you my friend," Hamilton wrote. "You are leaving this sport better than you found it, which is always the goal," he followed.
"I have no doubt that whatever comes next for you will be exciting, meaningful and rewarding," he declared. "Love you, man," he closed.
In recent years, Vettel, like Hamilton, has been an active voice for social causes. The German constantly speaks out about the rights of the LGBTQIA+ population and is an advocate for the environment.
