Guenther Steiner has admitted for the first time that he intends to have a serious talk with Mick Schumacher should he crash for a third time in 2022this weekend in Baku
Haas has admitted for the first time that it is already studying what to do with Mick Schumacher should the young German crash his car again during the weekend in Azerbaijan. In a press conference after Friday's free practice session, Guenther Steiner said that the accidents in Saudi Arabia and Monaco cannot happen again in 2022 or the American squad will run the risk of running out of parts.
Although he said he didn't put pressure on Michael Schumacher's son, the Haas boss warned that a serious conversation must take place and already puts Mick's future in check. The driver is still suffering from an uncomfortable fast in Formula 1, since he has not scored in 28 races.
"I think he knows that it's not good for the team to keep crashing the car. If I had to explain that, then I shouldn't be here, he knows the damage," Steiner said.
And he went further: the eagerness to score points hinders Schumacher to perform well for Haas. "We are over the limit for accidents because of the budget ceiling, we need to try to save elsewhere. It is simply not possible to continue like this," he said.
Schumacher is part of Ferrari's driver academy and has several times had his name linked to the Italian team as a future starter. Still, the Haas manager understands that something needs to change, even to guarantee a future for the youngster.
"At some point, we will run out of parts, even if you put money into it, physically it becomes impossible. So we need to make sure nothing happens to the car, so Schumacher needs to adjust and not do what he did in Monte Carlo. There is no simple answer. There are many things we need to solve now," Steiner added.
