The obvious conclusion is that the feud between Haas and Schumacher now runs so deep that Steiner and team owner Gene Haas may not be willing to extend his contract. The German driver criticized the team in Austria for feeling that his teammate Kevin Magnussen had to have given him passage in the short race.
Some, however, believe that the technical collaboration between Haas and Ferrari means that the Maranello team may insist on a new deal for Schumacher.
"I will not discuss any Ferrari contracts with us," Steiner told motorsport-totall.com, "and also about any contracts between Ferrari and Mick, because I don't know them in detail anyway."
However, he said that the situation "may not be as clear" as many experts believe. "You cannot conclude that Ferrari is telling us what to do. We have a say in that," he concluded.
