Haas admits concern, but sees Ferrari engine more "powerful" than in 2021?

Haas boss Guenther Steiner admitted that Carlos Sainz's breakdown in Austria brought concern to the team, but stressed that he still prefers the problems to last year's lack of pace

Charles Leclerc's victory in the Austrian Grand Prix brought a little more peace of mind to Ferrari, which saw its driver outdo Max Verstappen on track three times to secure an uncontested result. However, it wasn't all flowers in Spielberg, and Carlos Sainz's retirement due to yet another engine failure brought some concern. Not only in the Maranello team, but also in the client teams - as pointed out by Haas boss Guenther Steiner.

"No, no worries... I'm kidding! Obviously, when you see that, it's not good. And we still had some problems this year," Steiner admitted in an interview with the F1 Nation podcast, "But I always say, on the one hand the engine is very good, it's powerful. And on the other hand we had problems," the Italian stressed.

Despite the problem suffered by the Spaniard, Steiner argued that he still prefers to have a set that involves power than to be able to finish every race in the situation he was in last year, when Haas did not score a single point during the entire season.

Moreover, the Haas boss showed confidence that Ferrari's work on the engine of the #55 car will bear fruit and bring more reliability to the team's equipment.

"I don't like them [problems], obviously, but then compare it to the engine we had last year," he assessed. "At least when you start the race, you know you can fight. Obviously, if you have a problem, it's very disappointing. But the engine is very powerful. I'm sure Ferrari will work hard to get more reliability," he closed.

Formula 1 returns to work next weekend, with the French GP at Paul Ricard, scheduled to take place between July 22 and 24.
