Pierre Gasly will start from sixth in the Azerbaijan GP, his best starting position in 2022. Yuki Tsunoda won't be far behind in eighth, thrilled with AlphaTauri's work
AlphaTauri was one of the great news from qualifying this Saturday (11) in Baku, with Pierre Gasly in sixth position and Yuki Tsunoda starting eighth, the best grid-setting performance for the team in 2022. And both left the day very optimistic, hoping that the team can get both cars into the points zone.
Gasly remembered that he is defending the podium in 2021 and, for this reason, he is excited about tomorrow's race. The Frenchman valued his best starting position in 2022 and expects confusion in the front group.
"I'm extremely happy, it was my best qualifying in the year, I don't think we could have expected anything better than that, it was great to have both cars in the top-10. The team did a great job, the car worked well here and we had a very strong qualifying. Anything is possible here in Baku, we saw it last year with the podium. It's easy to make mistakes here, there are usually red flags, so you have to start well and then take advantage of everything that can happen up front. Very happy with the performance", he said.
Tsunoda also celebrated the result and expects a good race, with the Italian team managing to score with both cars.
"It was a good day, I'm pretty happy with qualifying. I was a bit lucky to get into Q3, but I think the lap I did, with worn tires, was good, I'm pleased with myself. We did a fantastic job as a team, so I want to thank everybody very much. I hope we can carry the good momentum into tomorrow and finish with both cars in the points," he commented.
AlphaTauri is only seventh in the Constructors' World Championship, with 17 points. Tsunoda has 11, while Gasly has 6.
