Even with a good result in the second free practice, he is not at all satisfied with AlphaTauri's performance in Montreal - and the problems go beyond the team's rhythm
Not even the great performance in the second free practice for the Canadian Grand Prix cheered Pierre Gasly up. After placing 11th in TL1, the Frenchman showed good performance in Montreal and achieved sixth place in the final session of the day.
Still, the driver declared that he is not feeling fully comfortable in the AlphaTauri car and listed two fundamental problems with the car on Friday (17).
"It was extremely difficult today. The one lap performance, at the end, was good - but I don't feel great at the moment in the car. I had a lot of difficulties with the balance, as well as tire degradation in the long sequences," Gasly revealed.
Even with these issues, the Frenchman is hopeful that there will be a good chance of rain on Saturday, when Formula 1 will run TL3 and qualifying in Montreal. According to Gasly, good pace will not be enough to guarantee a good result in Canada - and it is in this scenario that weather conditions become a factor.
"Let's see what we can do for tomorrow. The weather conditions for qualifying practice look like they will be wet, which could make things interesting. It's encouraging that the pace is there on the timesheet, but the peloton is very tight - so we definitely have work to do," he finished.
