Gasly Admits Emotion and Calls for France to Stay in F1: "Deserves a Place"

The French GP, won by Max Verstappen last Sunday (24), may have its days numbered in Formula 1. With the debuts of Las Vegas and Qatar, as well as the return of China scheduled for next year, France has been strongly tipped as a candidate to leave the calendar in 2023. And Pierre Gasly, a Frenchman, is one of the drivers most hoping this doesn't happen.

The AlphaTauri driver stated that he tried to enjoy every moment he experienced over the last weekend, aware that they could be the last in Formula 1 within his home country. Furthermore, Yuki Tsunoda's teammate stated that it was "exciting" to receive so much support from the French public, even more so after his victory in the 2020 Italian GP.

"I tried to enjoy every second," Gasly acknowledged. "I have to say, it was a little bit exciting to see all those French flags there. It was the first time I raced in a French GP since I won at Monza, so I had a lot more support. You can see that people are really excited about Formula One in this country," he said.

Despite the sadness of seeing the French GP leave the calendar, Gasly did not lose hope and still believes in a return of the country in the future. As an argument, the Frenchman pointed to the presence of Alpine, the French team, which still counts compatriot Esteban Ocon among the starters.

"I hope we will have the French GP again, because I feel it clearly deserves a place on the calendar," the Frenchman pointed out. "We have Alpine, we have two French drivers - two and a half, with Charles [Leclerc, who is Monegasque] - but I feel that if it's not at this track, I hope we can find a solution at another," he added.

The next stop for Formula 1, the last before the vacation break, will be in Hungary - already this weekend. GRANDE PRÊMIO follows all the action of the 13th round of the season LIVE and in REAL TIME.
