Frederik Vesti wins first F2 race in Azerbaijan

Frederik Vesti took his first victory in Formula 2 on Saturday in the short race in Baku, Azerbaijan. The ART Grand Prix driver was third after the start, but soon passed Jake Hughes, who was dropping down the field.

The early leader was Jehan Daruvala, who was more than 4s ahead. But this was nullified by the sequence of yellow flags in the closing laps. I passed him after the penultimate re-start, with three laps to go.

Liam Lawson completed the podium in third, having survived a dispute that ended up driving Richard Verschoor into the wall, causing the penultimate Safety Car intervention. Marcus Armstrong finished fourth.

Brazilian Felipe Drugovich conquered the fifth place in the last lap, after being seventh. This gives him a 34-point lead in the championship.

Logan Sargeant, Theo Pourchaire, and Ayumu Iwasa completed the scoring zone. Enzo Fittipaldi abandoned after a crash by Juri Vips. The race ended with a harder crash in turn 1 on the last lap, which affected the guard rails.
