FIA fines Vettel for leaving drivers' meeting "early and expressing frustration

In a curious way, Sebastian Vettel was called to the commissioners' room in Austria this Saturday (9), due to his "behavior at the drivers' meeting" - which, as it traditionally is, took place on Friday night. After the conversation with the FIA (International Automobile Federation), the German driver was fined 25,000 Euros.

According to the regulatory body, the four-time world champion left the meeting "without permission and expressing great frustration" before the end of the meeting - which, according to the entity itself, represents a possible violation of Article 12.2.1 (f) of the International Sporting Code, and also Article 20.1 of the Formula One Sporting Regulations.

"Any words, acts or writings that have caused moral damage to the FIA, its bodies, its members or its executive directors and, more generally, on the interest of motor sport and on the values upheld by the FIA" are prohibited, as provided by such article of the International Sporting Code.

The fine imposed on Vettel will only be enforceable if the four-time world champion does not attend another drivers' meeting by the end of the year. Otherwise, the German will be free of the punishment. According to the FIA, Vettel met with the race director after the incident and apologized - which mitigated the severity of the violation, according to the FIA's own statement.

The Race website points out that Vettel had a heated debate about the consistency of race direction, a role shared in 2022 by Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas - something that, in the drivers' view, is not working effectively well. The relationship between the grid and the FIA is not the best, points out the portal.

In 2021, Christian Horner also found himself accused of violating such articles after criticizing the Formula 1 commissioners at the Qatar GP. The Red Bull boss received a formal warning.
