Still reeling from the recent pitfalls, Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto admitted that reliability is still a concern, but noted that rival Red Bull has also had problems of this type this season
Ferrari once again finished a qualifying session ahead of Red Bull, but Carlos Sainz was responsible for putting the Italian team in pole-position for the British GP. For Mattia Binotto, however, there are still issues that need to be worked on for the team to convert the good result of this Saturday (2) into victory, such as reliability.
In the last few races, the Italian team faced many problems, especially with Charles Leclerc. Both in Barcelona and in Baku, the monegasque was left behind due to engine failure. In Canada, the problem appeared again and forced Ferrari to replace the entire power unit of the #16, forcing him to start from the back of the grid.
"They [Red Bull] won seven races, and we won two. There were races where we were leading and had reliability problems, so I think the score could easily be 4-5," the Maranello boss assessed.
"There are still many races to go, and reliability is a concern for us, but it could also be a concern for them. There are still many races ahead, and reliability is a concern for us, but it can also be a concern for them," said Binotto, remembering that the rival also had serious problems at the beginning of the year, with breaks in Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez. "Every race has to be completed, so we will keep pushing," he added.
About the English race, Binotto called attention to the need to take good care of the tires, especially because of the high-speed corners of the Silverstone circuit.
"Here is one of those tracks where you go into the high speed corners with a lot of appetite and you need to manage that [tire wear]. It's going to be a problem and a concern, so it's something that needs care and management," Binotto concluded.
