Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto has stated that the Italians have secured a fit for Carlos Sainz in Canada, but Leclerc's problem is still in doubt...
Ferrari's weekend in Azerbaijan was truly one to forget. The Maranello team left the streets of Baku with zero, as its two cars abandoned the race - the first double abandonment of 2022, by the way. While Carlos Sainz had problems after just nine laps, Charles Leclerc also left the race while leading on lap 21. And there is a dilemma there.
The Italians have identified that the problem in the F1-75 #55 was hydraulic. Ferrari confirmed that the damage to the Spaniard's car has already "been analyzed" and that they are making "medium and long-term" adjustments, as the Canadian GP already takes place this week. Carlos is already using his second power unit.
The big question is about the #16 car. Mattia Binotto, team boss, admitted that they had not found the root of the problem and that the engine would not arrive in time at the Maranello factory for further analysis, but they would do a study last Tuesday. It is worth remembering that the Monegasque is already using his third engine, which leaves him on the verge of future punishments.
The team goes to Montreal with 199 points in the Constructors' World Championship, 80 less than leader Red Bull. Max Verstappen is also the pointer with 150. Leclerc is third with 116. That is why, once again, he emphasized that Ferrari can no longer fail to take advantage of opportunities.
"That one hurt. We really need to investigate this properly, make sure this doesn't happen anymore. I have no words to describe it, but it's very, very frustrating. We were fast and had no problems at the beginning of the season, but now it seems we have more, and that's without messing things up too much," he said after the race.
