Ferrari chooses to swap entire engine, and Leclerc starts from bottom of grid in Canada

Ferrari has decided to change all engine components for Charles Leclerc, who will start from the back of the grid at the Canadian Grand Prix. The Monegasque driver was already 'hanging' on the number of turbochargers used this season, and with the Italian team's option to change all the components, he knows he will start last at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Ferrari had already chosen to change the electronic controls of Leclerc's car, which would cause the third-placed driver in the World Championship to lose ten grid positions. With the decision to completely overhaul the power unit, the Scuderia 'sacrifices' a race in order to be able to present an engine in better condition in the next round at Silverstone.

Other drivers, such as Lance Stroll, Esteban Ocon and Kevin Magnussen, also made changes to some engine parts - these, however, without punishment for still being within the allowed limit. Different story to Leclerc and Yuki Tsunoda, who also had all his power unit parts changed by AlphaTauri and leaves from the back of the grid, alongside Charles.
