Dennis Hauger took his first main race victory in Formula 2 after a tense battle with Juri Vips in Baku ended with the Hitech Grand Prix driver in the barriers. Vips led from pole and only temporarily lost the lead to teammate Marcus Armstrong during the pit stops.

Hauger, meanwhile, stayed out of trouble and put himself in contention for the win after two Safety Cars grouped the grid. The second set up a dramatic end to the race and a fight between Hauger and Vips.

The duo quickly pulled away from Logan Sargeant in third. The Red Bull juniors were barely separated on the track, exchanging faster laps as the gap hovered around a second in Vips' favor, although he couldn't get out of range of the DRS.

With just over five minutes left in the race, Hauger's pressure forced Vips into a mistake. The Hitech Grand Prix driver hit the barriers entering the part of the castle, allowing the Norwegian to go through for the win.

Williams Academy driver Sargeant took second, ahead of championship leader Felipe Drugovich, who took third, extending his lead in the standings to 49 points over Theo Pourchaire. The Frenchman suffered front wing damage in the middle of the race and was out of the points at the checkered flag.

Jehan Daruvala placed two PREMAs in the top five, while Richard Verschoor secured fifth place for Trident. Enzo Fittipaldi maintained his impressive form, finishing sixth ahead of Saturday's winner Frederik Vesti, who was even stopped on the grid.
