F1 renews Melbourne and keeps Australian GP on the calendar until 2035

The category announced an extension of the Albert Park circuit and secured the race for another impressive 13 years; in addition, as of 2023, Formula 2 and Formula 3 will also be staged there

In the last hours of Wednesday (15), Formula 1 announced that it has reached an agreement with the organizers of the Australian Grand Prix to extend the link between the parties. Therefore, the race - which is held at Albert Park in Melbourne - will remain on the calendar of the world's largest motor racing category until 2035.

The old contract between F1 and Australia was valid until 2025 - the renewal, therefore, is for another 10 years on the original agreement. In addition, from the 2023 season, Formula 2 and Formula 3 will also have stages to be held in Australia.

"I am pleased to confirm that Melbourne and the Albert Park circuit will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until 2035. The race has always been a favorite of fans, drivers and teams and Melbourne is an incredible and vibrant international city, a perfect match for our sport," said Stefano Domenicali, F1 CEO.

"We have seen great crowds and passionate fans at the GP this year, and we are very excited about the future in Australia as our sport continues to grow. We are all looking forward to returning to Melbourne next season with all our fans," the director added.

The category returned to the Albert Park circuit in 2022 after two years. In 2020, the race was suspended at the last minute with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Back in Australia with new cars, Formula One saw Melbourne return also modified, with a redesigned circuit - intended to facilitate overtaking.

"This is a sensational announcement that is just great for Melbourne. It builds on our rich history in motorsport as well as Melbourne's love of great sporting events and provides aspiration for the next generation of Australian racing stars. We are proud of our strong relationship with Formula One and together we will grow the sport in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region," said Australian GP promoter Andrew Westacott.
