Lewis Hamilton won a dramatic British GP, passing Charles Leclerc with three laps to go after colliding with Max Verstappen on the opening lap.
Hamilton received a 10-second penalty for colliding with Verstappen at Copse on the opening lap, taking the championship leader out of the race and causing a red flag.
Despite penalty, Hamilton managed to recover, coming from fourth position to catch up with Leclerc and overtake Ferrari at Copse with three laps to go.
Leclerc secured second place for Ferrari, with Valtteri Bottas completing the podium in third.
At the start, Hamilton put pressure on Verstappen and the two went around Abbey side by side. The Dutchman defended himself, but Hamilton continued to attack his rival at Brooklands and Luffield.
The Briton took Verstappen's vacuum at Woodcote and put in on the inside as the two entered Copse at 280 mph. Hamilton's left front wheel hit Verstappen's right rear, causing the Red Bull to spin.
Verstappen hit the barriers hard, and the safety car came in immediately. Despite the 51 G impact, he got out of the car and into the ambulance unaided before being checked at the medical center and taken to the hospital for further examination.
The red flag was shown to remove Verstappen's car and repair the barriers. The accident allowed Leclerc to take the lead before the safety car came out, meaning that the Ferrari driver would lead the field at the restart stop.
The Monegasque retained first position, ahead of Hamilton and Lando Norris - who passed Bottas and moved up to third. Sebastian Vettel spun at the Luffield exit, but avoided the barriers and stayed in the race.
Hamilton was chasing Leclerc, but he was told of the 10-second stewards' penalty for causing the collision with Verstappen on the first lap.
Leclerc managed to maintain a comfortable lead until he started complaining that his engine was cutting out on lap 15. Hamilton immediately upped the pace and pressured the leader, but did not get close enough to challenge him.
Hamilton eventually stopped on lap 27, serving his 10-second penalty and returning fourth, behind Bottas and Norris. He quickly passed McLaren and moved up to third behind his teammate.
Bottas was given a direct order not to fight with Hamilton and soon after was instructed to open the gap at Stowe.
Hamilton began to take the 10-second gap to Leclerc, and with just under four laps to go, he entered the DRS zone to the delight of the Silverstone crowd.
Hamilton caught the Ferrari's vacuum at Woodcote and dived around the inside of Leclerc. The Ferrari came around the corner in front, but the Monegasque slipped out on the exit and allowed the Briton to take the lead.
The Mercedes driver went quietly to the checkered flag and reduced Verstappen's lead in the championship to just eight points.
Behind Leclerc and Bottas, Norris and Daniel Ricciardo came in fourth and fifth. Carlos Sainz, Leclerc's Ferrari teammate, finished sixth.
Fernando Alonso (Alpine), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Esteban Ocon (Alpine), and Yuki Tsunoda (Alpha Tauri) rounded out the top 10 and the scoring zone.
Sergio Perez was 16th and set the fastest lap, taking an additional point off Mercedes after an extra stop to put on soft tires.
