The 6th round of the Formula 2 World Championship - the main access category to Formula 1 - ended even more positively for Felipe Drugovich than his own result on Saturday. This Sunday (12), after the second race of the stage in Baku, Azerbaijan, the driver from the Dutch team MP Motorsport increased to 49 points his advantage over the second place in the classification table.
Starting from the fifth position in the Feature Race, the longest and most valuable race of the stage, the driver from Maringá (PR) made a cautious start in Baku's dangerous street circuit and, because of that, was overtaken by three competitors.
With super soft compound tires in the first stint, Felipe Drugovich made his mandatory pit stop in the 9th of 29 laps and returned to the track in 10th place with medium compound tires. Later, after the stop of all the drivers, the Brazilian driver was in 4th position, the result of overtaking and a quick work of MP Motorsport in the pits.
The last laps, as well as Saturday's race, when Drugovich finished 5th, were tense, because of the virtual and real safety cars and the consequent restarts. When there were four laps to go, benefited by the crash and the abandonment of the then leader, the Estonian Juri Vips, the Brazilian climbed to the third position, where he received the flag in the safety car regime.
This way, after scoring 17 points in the whole weekend, Felipe Drugovich reached 132 points, opening an important advantage of 49 points over the Frenchman Theo Pourchaire, the second leader. And by winning his sixth podium of the season, he now totals 60 in his career in European motorsport, which began in 2016 in German Formula 4.
Felipe Drugovich," he concluded.
Formula 2 returns to the track between July 1 and 3 for the 7th round at Silverstone, England.
