Leader in the standings, Brazilian Felipe Drugovich had a very positive Saturday (2) in his fight for the championship of Formula 2, the main access category to Formula 1. In Silverstone, England, he placed 5th in the first race of the 7th round of the championship and kept practically intact the gap he had at the legendary British circuit.
Third place in the qualifying session on Friday (1st), the driver from Maringá (PR) started 8th because of the inverted grid among the top 10, as required by the regulations. The Sprint Race, as Saturday's Formula 2 race is called, was held on a wet track, and for this reason Drugovich was cautious at the start, to the point of losing a position in the first lap.
In the first part of the race the pilot from the Dutch team MP Motorsport lost contact with the frontrunners, recalls Felipe Drugovich, he added.
Throughout the race Felipe Drugovich overtook Liam Lawson, Juri Vips, Frederik Vesti - to whom he had lost the 8th position in the beginning of the race - and Jehan Daruvala. And, with a faster pace in the last laps, he got very close to the 4th place, the Frenchman Theo Pourchaire, his main opponent in the fight for the season title, but not enough to try to overtake him.
After 20 laps the Brazilian driver was 5th and kept his gap to Pourchaire almost intact. After Saturday's race, Drugovich has a 48-point advantage over Pourchaire, only one less than he had before the race.
The Feature Race, the longest and most valuable race of the stage - 25 points for the winner - will start at 6:05 a.m. this Sunday (BrasĂlia time) and will be broadcast live throughout Brazil by BandSports channel.
