Formula One is preparing to unveil another unprecedented race calendar for 2023. "30 GP races would not be reasonable," F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali told France's L'Equipe newspaper. "Our preferred option would be to stay at 23 or 24 races."

The latest buzz in the Montreal paddock is about two potential new races - one on the streets of the French coastal city of Nice and another on the African continent.

"We are a world championship, but Africa is not there at the moment," commented Domenicali, who visited the Kyalami circuit after Baku. "That has to change."

"The discussions are progressing and I think we will have an answer quickly. And having a race there while Lewis Hamilton is still racing would be great," he continued.

However, with other new venues, such as Las Vegas, also set to enter F1, Domenicali is having to make a smart schedule to accommodate the new races.

"We will work in a rotating way," he declared. "Not only for Europe, but also for other continents."

Quadruple races - an unprecedented series of four GPs on consecutive weekends - may also be necessary to include all the events. "I think with a little bit of calendar optimization and a little bit of regionalization, I think we can combat the increase in races," commented McLaren's Zak Brown.

"I would be surprised if we did four races in a row, but it also depends on which part of the world you are in. Stefano has told us that he is definitely trying to optimize the calendar and I think that will help a lot," Brown concluded.
