According to George Russell, this even creates dangerous situations and can lead to serious accidents. However, a gesture by the FIA to make adjustments to the rules did not get a majority.
This is what The Race website reported on Sunday morning before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The FIA would be open to making some simple changes to the rules that would reduce pitting. This was discussed during the drivers' briefing and then discussed at meetings of the "Technical Advisory Committee".
However, all the proposals that passed the review failed to get a majority. It is now June and this means that eight out of ten teams now have to accept direct changes or amendments to the regulations. The chances of this happening are nil, as all the teams have their own interests.
It is unclear which teams voted for and against, but that at least Red Bull Racing (along with its sister team AlphaTauri) voted against the FIA's gesture seems obvious. The Austrian team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez itself is hardly bothered by the quiques.
It is not in Red Bull's interest that Mercedes and, to a lesser extent, Ferrari be "helped" to become more competitive. Besides, Adrian Newey and his men would have to modify the RB18 design again for a problem that does not affect them.
