Dutch driver Tom Coronel believes that Oscar Piastri will race for Williams in 2023, suggesting that the Australian may have already signed his contract.

Nicholas Latifi's poor start to the season could end his Formula One career after 2022, and according to Coronel, his replacement has already been chosen.

"Of course, we will see Oscar Piastri, Alpine's reserve driver, racing there," the Dutchman said on the F1 podcast of .

"It looks like this has already been signed in Monaco. I don't know when they will announce it. It's a strong rumor."

"If you want someone like Piastri to mature in F1, Alpine has set aside a decent budget for that, a budget to adapt him to the category."

Piastri's announcement at Williams in 2023 would virtually confirm that Fernando Alonso will remain at Alpine after the end of his current contract.

The Spaniard returned to F1 in the 2021 season alongside Esteban Ocon and scored seven points more than his younger teammate.

"You wouldn't loan a driver like Piastri," Coronel continued. "You don't put him at Williams for nothing. That means Alpine would like to keep its driver duo."
