The Hungarian GP held its first day of activities on Friday (29), at the Hungaroring Circuit, with the first two free practice sessions of the 13th round of the 2022 season. And Ferrari came out on top, with Carlos Sainz topping the TL1 timesheet and Charles Leclerc leading TL2. Red Bull remains close behind its rival, with Max Verstappen second in the first practice and fourth in the second.
McLaren is also a highlight: Lando Norris has twice put the British team in the top five, with a fourth place in TL1 and a second place in TL2. Even Daniel Ricciardo, who is not having a good day in Woking, managed to reach the fifth position in the second free practice.
Thus, the top-10 of the day's final practice session was formed as follows: Leclerc, Norris, Sainz, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, George Russell, Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas.

George Russell, eighth: Russell believes in Hungary weather changes, but sees Mercedes "further than expected"
Sergio Pérez, ninth: Pérez acknowledges Ferrari "very strong" in Hungary, but says he is "quite optimistic"
Valtteri Bottas, tenth: "I had TL2 to get a bit of a feel for the car and the updates we are bringing to this race. I think we've taken a step forward in terms of grip, we're going in the right direction: the middle class will be as close as ever, so every little improvement can give you an advantage. I know there is a lot more to come from me, so I'm satisfied with what we did today - not a bad start. Tomorrow could be a very different day as far as the weather is concerned, but we have worked to prepare for all conditions. Overall, the balance of the car is not bad, so I think we are in a good place for Sunday."
Lewis Hamilton, 11th: Hamilton criticizes "crazy" W13 in Hungary: "It changes from track to track"
Guanyu Zhou, 12th: "Today was reasonably smooth, we took a step forward in the afternoon compared to TL1, although there are still many things to analyze overnight in preparation for Saturday. Hopefully we can perform better tomorrow compared to previous weekends, but I think it's safe to say we're not that bad. In today's hot conditions we didn't struggle as much compared to Paul Ricard, so I think what needs to be done is fine-tuned to be ready for tomorrow. As usual, the intermediate peloton is about to be tight, so we need to deliver our best performances and be able to get back to Q2, which should be our base goal from now on."
Esteban Ocon, 13th: "It's great to be back to driving in Budapest, as several great memories go through my head. Regarding our pace, it was good to add two more free practice sessions. We are still unsure about the weather forecast for tomorrow, and today may have been the only opportunity to ride on a dry track that we will have before qualifying or even the race. We extracted a good knowledge of a variety of things, which puts us in good shape for the rest of the weekend. As we know, the rain here can make things interesting. So we'll see how that plays out and what we can achieve."
Lance Stroll, 14th: "It's a positive thing that we're still bringing updates to the car - we'll look at the data tonight to see what impact they're having. Today was a good day. On the dry track, we seem to be right in the middle of the pack. But it's very tight there, with only a few tenths of a second separating the majority. The forecast for the rest of the weekend is uncertain, so it's hard to predict where everyone will qualify tomorrow or in the race on Sunday."
Pierre Gasly, 15th: "I was very happy with my lap and managed to do a good one in TL2. In terms of performance, we are not there yet. We are 'slipping' a lot, so we will have to see what we can change by tomorrow to be faster. There's not a big problem with the balance, and I felt I was really on the limit, doing a clean lap, but the weather doesn't seem to reflect that - so we need to analyze it tonight. Based on the forecast, tomorrow we will have rain for qualifying, which are conditions I like to drive in. I hope to find some solutions to improve the car, but a little rain wouldn't be bad for us."
Kevin Magnussen, 16th: "It was quiet, really. We had no problems, and the feeling inside the car was good. It was basically more or less what we expected, so I'm happy with that. We'll have more work to do to get more out of the car, and that will come with time. So far we've been doing well. We hope to climb the grid tomorrow and it looks like it's going to be in the rain, so it's going to be unpredictable."
Mick Schumacher, 17th: "It was a bit tricky. It's a matter of getting used to this track with these new cars - it's much more mechanical, with a lot of oscillations. We are figuring out where the oscillations are at the moment and also trying to adapt the setup of the car to what we need here. We still need to work a little bit with high and low fuel, but our main focus is with a full tank. In the rain, our car has generally been strong, so let's hope for the best tomorrow. If we have everything in the right places, we'll be fine."
Nicholas Latifi, 18th: "Overall, it was a tricky day with the track conditions and the temperature - which were probably the same for everyone. We struggled to get the balance right, so there's still a bit of lap time to extract if we can tidy up the car a bit more. There are still some things I need to work on. Tomorrow may provide some opportunities with the mixed conditions, so hopefully we can take advantage of that."
Yuki Tsunoda, 19th: "Today feels like a big step backwards from France, where the car was doing very well. Here in Hungary, the balance of the car is not ideal, I'm really struggling with that, so we need to see with the engineers tonight and find out what the problem is - so we can improve for tomorrow. It looks like it's going to rain for qualifying, I'm not sure how I feel about that yet. It really depends on what we can learn overnight and how much more pace we can find in TL3."
Alexander Albon, 20th: "Actually, we didn't make a proper short sequence and had to cut it short, so it wasn't a smooth session today - but anyway, we're going into tomorrow refreshed. It's likely to be wet, so it will be 'reset' for everyone and I don't think (balance of) today will hurt us too much."
Robert Kubica, 19th in TL1: "It's always good and interesting to be in the car, because there is always something to learn. For the second time in a row after France, the track conditions were different, we did some testing and found out some new things. Anyway, I think we did a good job. We had some updates on the car, so I made sure to take it easy to avoid any damage, but I still had some fun. I did a sequence on the hard compound and then switched to soft - it's never the simplest thing to switch from one compound to the other, but everything went well."
