Capito reveals new candidate for Williams vacancy

Williams boss Jost Capito admits that Logan Sargeant may add to his dilemma in choosing the team's driver duo for 2023.

Sargeant is a member of the Williams Driver Academy and is third in the Formula 2 championship after back-to-back wins in the main races at Silverstone and the Red Bull Ring.

The American's form has been impressing Capito, who acknowledges that this could be an added complication as the team looks at who its drivers will be next year.

"It would be a great headache, wouldn't it?" joked Capito, "I've had worse. Of course we are impressed."

"It's his first season in F2 and we haven't put any pressure on him in order to give him time to develop. He has really impressed us with his quick adaptation to the car, his tire management, and the results.

"His pole (in France) was really impressive. He will be in a Formula One car in the future, I am absolutely convinced."

The F2 season doesn't end until November, the same weekend as the last F1 round in Abu Dhabi, and that adds to the problem of trying to decide a driver's future, according to Capito.

"Logan, for example, needs the superlicense points," he explained. "For that, he has to be in the top five in the championship."

"At the moment, it looks good, but things can always change quickly, so it's tricky to make early decisions about an F2 driver before the end of the season. It's part of the process, of course."
