Brown hopes Andretti hasn't given up on F1

McLaren CEO Zak Brown is concerned that Michael Andretti may have given up on taking his team to Formula One.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown is concerned that Michael Andretti has given up on taking his team to Formula 1.

Andretti Autosport is a big name not only in American motorsport, but globally, including in Formula E.

However, F1 and the FIA seem reluctant to simply give the team the green light. Mercedes, for example, is primarily concerned about the dilution of income from the category, despite the $200 million entry fee.

When asked whether Andretti's proposal is "dead," Brown replied, "I hope not. I don't think so, but it certainly seems to be meeting a lot of resistance."

He admits that the issue could be resolved if Andretti agrees to pay more than $200 million, considering that F1's popularity and success is growing.

"I wouldn't want to comment on what I consider the correct number, but what I would say is that the value of an F1 franchise between the signing of the Concordia Pact and now has grown rapidly," Brown said.

"Ultimately, it's up to F1 to decide what the right number to enter is, but an F1 team is worth significantly more today than it was three years ago."
