Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto saw a rather tense finish to the Canadian GP with his driver Carlos Sainz chasing Max Verstappen.
Ultimately, Sainz did not get close enough to attempt an overtake and the Scuderia had to settle for second position.
During the season, Verstappen has been dueling with Charles Leclerc, but with the Monegasque starting at the end of the grid due to an engine penalty, Ferrari has pinned its hopes on Sainz.
The team boss believes that Leclerc could have been part of the battle. "Charles could have been there too," Binotto told .
"I think we had a good race pace today. We were fighting, and when you get behind so close, it shows that you have a good pace."
"I think Carlos had a good race and is gaining confidence in the car, getting better. It's just a matter of time, but he will get there very soon."
Red Bull remains on top in both world championships as Formula One heads to Silverstone. Binotto knows what Ferrari needs to do to regain some ground.
"The atmosphere was very tense at the end with the safety car and we came in second. Again, it shows that you need the perfect weekend to win because the fight is quite close," he added.
