Rubens Barrichello declined to comment on whether Carlos Sainz is his current successor as Ferrari's second driver.
The Brazilian has had one of the longest careers in Formula One with 11 wins, but he is best remembered for his supporting role during Michael Schumacher's era at Ferrari.
Barrichello believes that Charles Leclerc and Ferrari now have a chance to dominate again - even though Max Verstappen apparently has a clear advantage at the moment.
"I would say yes," he declared to . "The team still has everything in their own hands."
"A few races ago, they were at the top of the championship, so I don't see why that can't happen once again. The situation is reversed in the blink of an eye and there are still many stages left."
Barrichello agrees that one of Ferrari's biggest problems at the moment is engine reliability.
"Reliability will be one of the most important factors. The past has proven that. The key for the teams will be to do their homework and improve the car."
"Red Bull is really fast and also seems to have reliability, and you need both to win the title."
As for the debate over Sainz merely being the second driver, a role that echoes his own past, Barrichello avoided the subject.
"I will be targeted in Brazil for what I say," he insisted. "All I can say is that Ferrari has two great drivers. The rest has to do with politics and I don't like that."
