Baku Circuit - Azerbaijan
Probably the best street track in F1 history, the engineering challenge for the circuit in the beautiful city of Baku is to have straight line speed and at the same time low corner grip. The downforce levels are only higher than Monza, but Baku has no high-speed corners to power the tires. So the problem is to get as much downforce as possible out of the car and still ensure that the tires can work in their operating window. And with the new ground effect cars this challenge can be even greater.

The trickiest corner is 15. It is a corner with a narrow, downhill approach and the driver needs to use all the available lane on the entrance to be fast. But be careful: carry too much speed and you risk hitting the outer barrier on the way out. The braking for turn 1 is also very tricky. The car comes in at speeds of up to 345 kph in the previous two kilometers, so the brakes are cold by the time the driver needs them badly. It's easy to lock a wheel in these conditions, lose tangency, and still hit the wall.

As the Baku circuit is a street track used only once a year, grip levels are poor at the start (TL1), but conditions improve as the race line is formed and rubber is laid down. In 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2021, the only four races we have had on this street track so far, they were sensational, one of the best in the championships all four years!

Stay tuned for the battles between Red Bull and Ferrari for the win and Mercedes and McLaren for the "best of the rest".
