No deal yet, but Aston Martin boss Mike Krack wants Sebastian Vettel to stay on and has confirmed talks

Aston Martin had high expectations for the 2022 season. But after 11 races, the British team finds itself in a difficult situation with a problematic car. It has only 18 points and is in ninth place in the Constructors' World Championship. With all these difficulties, there is that question: what about Sebastian Vettel? The four-time champion's name has already been involved in much speculation about continuing with the team.
But Mike Krack, Aston Martin's boss, is holding out hope. According to him, there is indeed no signed contract for 2023, but he claims that there are talks to extend the bond with the German.
"Well, we are talking. Sebastian is very, very positive [for the team], very constructive, so from that point of view I really hope we can continue," he said.

"Also, maybe for the investment he has made so far over two years, he should also be in a position to want something and not hand it over to somebody else. We are confident that we can make this a success with the negotiations we are having," he added.
In another interview, Krack said that one step in convincing Vettel to stay is in improving the car. The German missed the first two races of the year because of a positive Covid-19 diagnosis, and when he returned he found one of the worst cars on the grid.
He hoped that Silverstone could be a turning point, as the cars took to the track with some updates. Vettel managed to score, finishing in ninth position, and Stroll was 11th. However, at the next round in Austria, the AMR22 did not perform well enough to stay in the scoring zone.
