Aston Martin is applying gentle pressure for Sebastian Vettel to renew his contract for 2023.
The German - who recently had his political activism rebuked by Bernie Ecclestone, former Formula One chief executive - is openly undecided about continuing his career.
However, Aston Martin wants to keep the four-time champion, presumably because he has been far superior to teammate Lance Stroll - whose father Lawrence owns the team.
"I think it's a bit too early to say anything like that," said boss Mike Krack when asked about the Vettel-Stroll comparison.
However, regarding a new contract for Vettel, he told : "We have always made it clear that if he wants to continue, we want to keep him for a long time. We are talking and we have a great relationship.
However, Krack would like his compatriot to make a quick decision.
"We don't need to set deadlines. Of course, if we wait too long, there is a point where we will face problems and he knows that too."
But Krack insisted that the parties are engaged in "very reliable talks" and that "everything is fine."
"When you have someone like Sebastian, you need to try to keep him. He is a mixture of extreme driving quality, experience and a very positive person who helps us to progress," he concluded.
