Alpine boss suggests F1 slot for Oscar Piastri in 2023

In recent weeks, rumors have emerged that Oscar Piastri will secure a spot in F1 at Williams next season. The reserve driver and also Formula 2 champion for Alpine was left without a spot this year, but signs seem to be increasingly pointing to a future at Williams.

Otmar Szafnauer seems to be keeping it secret, although he hints at a future in F1 for the Australian. At the FIA press conference, the Alpine team boss was asked about the future of his junior.

When asked if he thinks Piastri will have a spot in F1 in 2023, Szafnauer is clear. He expects him to be in F1 next season. Which team it will be in, he wouldn't say. "It's hard for me to predict the future, I don't know any more than the rest," the team boss said according to the Motorsport-Magazin website.

In addition to rumors of a spot for Piastri in 2023, rumors are also circulating that a driver change will occur as early as this season. Piastri would already drive for Williams, at the expense of Nicholas Latifi. According to Szafnauer, this option is among the possibilities and certainly should not be ruled out.

Jost Capito, Williams' team boss, plays it down. In the same press conference he made it known that there are no plans to make a mid-season change. However, Piastri is on the list of drivers to win a spot for next season, but according to Capito the Australian is on the list of several teams.
