Faenza team boss Franz Tost said the French driver "has a valid contract" until the end of the next Formula One season - so "there is nothing more to say
Pierre Gasly will be an AlphaTauri driver for the next Formula 1 season. At least, who guarantees it is the head of the Faenza-based team, Franz Tost. In a press conference held this Saturday (18), the Austrian indicated that he has no doubt that the Frenchman will remain with the team for 2023.
"100% confirmed. He (Gasly) will be an AlphaTauri driver for 2023. He has a valid contract, there is nothing more to say," Tost merely stated.
Sergio Perez's renewal with Red Bull has left Pierre Gasly's future in Formula One open. After the Mexican driver's contract extension with the Energy team, there was much debate as to what would be the Frenchman's next team.
Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko had already stated that he believed that AlphaTauri in particular would be "the best alternative" for the driver. Mercedes had closed its doors to Gasly, who found himself without much of a choice - McLaren even emerged as a possible candidate, since Daniel Ricciardo has disappointed so far this season, but still the Australian has a contract until the end of next year.
"Pierre has also improved a lot. I must say that he is showing a fantastic performance," Tost additionally said at the press conference. "Unfortunately, at the beginning of the season we had a lot of reliability problems - for example in Bahrain when the battery caught fire. It was not his fault, it was the team's fault," he added.
"I am very happy now that at least in Baku he can show how good he is and I hope we can provide him with a competitive car for the rest of the season, because Pierre has the ability to be at the front and it is only in the team's hands to give him a really good competitive car," the AlphaTauri boss finished.
