Fernando Alonso says he wants to continue racing in Formula 1 "for at least two more years." In recent days, it seems increasingly likely that Renault-owned Alpine will strike a new deal with the two-time champion and send reserve driver Oscar Piastri to Williams.
"I think we will talk about it during the August break," Alonso, 40, told Sky Germany. "That was my original idea at the beginning of the year."
"Since my return, I have been enjoying my time in Formula 1. My intention is to continue for at least two more years. But that is only what is in my mind now. We haven't talked about it as a team yet, but I hope we can find an agreement and move forward."
With reigning Formula 2 champion Piastri likely to make his Williams debut next year, it also seems likely that his teammate will be Alex Albon.
"He gives very good information, is very good at getting the car right, is calm, has a good feel with the car and works well with the engineers and the team," said team boss Jost Capito.
