Fernando Alonso will start sixth in an all-Alpine third row in Hungary. The Spaniard is aiming for points in the race, but has already left well satisfied with the team's performance in qualifying
Fernando Alonso had a rare qualifying worse than his teammate Esteban Ocon, but he wasn't bothered at all by it in Hungary. This Saturday (30), the Spaniard secured the sixth position on the grid, just behind Ocon, but more than that: with Alpine placing both cars on the third row, something beyond the expectations of the French team.
Alonso said that Alpine wanted to have both cars in Q3, that is, at least in the first five rows. With both cars on the third row, the performance was far beyond what was expected.
"It was a good qualifying. The goal was to be in Q3, starting in the top ten, and we managed to do that, even starting on the third row with both cars, which is a great result for the team," he said.
The two-time champion is already projecting the fight with McLaren, which marks not only the dispute of the intermediate group in Hungary, but in the season as a whole. Lando Norris is fourth, with Daniel Ricciardo ninth.
"We need to get good points tomorrow, the race is the most important thing there is. The fight with McLaren will be fierce, Norris starts in front of us, I come out on the dirty side, I will have to defend well. And it may also rain, the race will be good," he added.
