Fernando Alonso praised Alpine's good performance on the straights of the Baku circuit in this Sunday's race. The Spaniard finished in seventh position, scoring six points
This time, luck smiled on Fernando Alonso, and the Spaniard left the race in Baku on Sunday (12) with a taste for more. The Alpine driver had a consistent race from the start, but still counted with Ferrari's retirements and a problem in Yuki Tsunoda's car to repeat the seventh place of the last race, held two weeks ago in Monaco.
After the Azerbaijan GP, Alonso talked about the initial difficulty on the complicated street circuit, but said he was very satisfied with the result. "I'm very happy with the seventh place. Of course we benefited from the pit stops, but racing is like that, and finishing in Baku with six points gives us a great taste." he celebrated. "We were seventh in Monaco, we repeated here again, so let's continue like this," said the Spaniard.
Since qualifying, Alpine showed that it would be difficult to be beaten on the long straights of the Azeri circuit thanks to the configuration to reduce drag a lot. This was decisive for the good performance seen in the race, in Alonso's opinion.
"I did some overtaking with new tires, and we were very fast on the straights too, which was useful. Our power unit was strong and competitive, so that's always a good thing," he added.
The next round takes place already next weekend in Canada. After a series of setbacks that always prevented him from scoring points, Alonso is determined to keep up the good momentum to grow in the standings.
"We are close to several cars at the moment, and I hope it will be the same in Canada. Let's try to score more points there!" concluded the two-time champion.
