Alonso sees Canada "a little different" in return with "decent Friday"

Fernando Alonso was one of the main highlights of Friday's two free practices in Canada, but remained very cautious for the rest of the weekend with Alpine

Fernando Alonso had another good Friday (17) in the 2022 F1 season in Canada. The two-time champion was third in TL1 and fifth in TL2, but remained cautious. Alpine has a history of starting the weekends very well, but withering in the stages. And Alonso knows that.

The Spaniard saw the day as "decent", but didn't go much further. Alonso took the opportunity to point out that the Canadian track looks different from the last time F1 was there. It was two years absent from the calendar by the Covid-19 pandemic, for.

"I think it was another decent Friday for us. The car seems to be doing very well on this Montreal track which is challenging. We haven't raced in Canada for a few years and that makes the track look a little different than it used to," he said.

The ground effect was also a theme in free practice in Montreal, the way it has impacted the drivers' approach to attacking the zebras. And Alonso also fears the rain, which is expected to show up in qualifying and throughout Saturday in Canada.

"Taking the zebra has been a little different from other years with the ground effect. Overall, a good experience. Tomorrow has a bit of a mixed weather forecast, but we will prepare as we can with information for the race," he added.

After a start with difficult results, Alonso has managed to turn performance into points and is already 11th in the World Drivers' Championship, with 16 of the 47 points that Alpine has taken in 2022.
