Alonso sees Alpine well "in the dry and the wet" and assures: "I could start in the top-5

Fernando Alonso looked as if he would be able to fight for the top positions on the starting grid once again, as he had done in the rainy qualifying of the Canadian GP, but had to settle for seventh place on the grid at the British GP with his Alpine. For the two-time champion, a somewhat frustrating result, as he sees the Alpine with potential for more at Silverstone.

Alonso explained that he didn't take everything out of the car because, when the track got better, he was running low on battery power. And he understands that he could at least start on the front row.

"I had more potential in the car today, unfortunately I couldn't take advantage of it in the last laps of Q3. The first lap put me in the lead, it was great, but then I crossed the line for the last lap with almost no battery, I couldn't get everything out of the car. I think I could have qualified in the top-five," he said.

The Spaniard commented that the team is ready for any scenario on Sunday. According to Alonso, Alpine can note good points with or without rain.

"We don't know if there will be rain tomorrow, but we will try to take advantage of our starting position and score good points. The car looks good in the dry and in the wet, and all the data we have at the factory points to the evolution of our car with the weekend's updates," he added.

Despite great performances, Alonso still suffers in turning them into great results in 2022. The Spaniard is 10th in the championship, with 18 points, 21 less than his teammate, Esteban Ocon.
