Alonso laments predictability of F1 and says: "I miss the fierce podium duels".

Fernando Alonso assessed that Formula 1 is very predictable with the order of forces. But, as much as he misses the battles ahead, he sees himself more competitive in 2022

After some time venturing into other categories, Fernando Alonso returned to Formula 1 in 2021. In his second year with Alpine, after a complicated start, the Spaniard seems to have got it right with the A521, taking advantage of good opportunities. He and Esteban Ocon are responsible for the team's fourth position in the Constructors' World Championship, tied with McLaren.

But the Asturian still has his reservations with F1. In 2022, a new technical regulation made itself present, promising to level the grid's order of forces. For Alonso, none of that happened.

"Unfortunately, Formula 1 is still very predictable. It's all about Red Bull and Ferrari.Only Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz and Sergio Pérez can win.I don't know any other sport where it's like that," he said in an interview with Dutch website NOS.

"The GPs have become more fun and with these cars you can fight better. I still find it very boring, but it's also part of F1. There will always be teams that are faster than others," he added.

The #14 is known for his sincerity, so he didn't deny that the dominance of only two teams doesn't satisfy him much. Still, he praises Alpine's improvement this season. The Asturian has scored in 7 of the 11 races so far.

"I miss the fierce podium duels. Of course it's great when I can stand out for a while, like in Canada when I started next to Max on the front row. This is great this season, I can show things that people don't expect from me anymore. This has always been my strength and this makes me proud. This is what motivates me: to be a better driver than in 2021. You also race against yourself in this sport," he explained.

"But I'm very happy with this season. We are quite competitive, but we made some mistakes and were very unlucky, like at the start of the race [at Silverstone]. The car is not reliable enough, as a result, we didn't score enough points. Still, things are going in the right direction," he closed.
