Fernando Alonso said he was pushed off the track by Yuki Tsunoda when he was competing for position with the Japanese driver. The Spaniard immediately made a no with his hands, disapproving of the attitude
Fernando Alonso drew attention in a tussle with Yuki Tsunoda during the Austrian Grand Prix, held last Sunday. On lap 34, the Alpine Spaniard was fighting for position against the AlphaTauri driver when he started to be pushed off the track. Alonso then passed Tsunoda with a no with his index finger, making it clear that he disapproved of his teammate's defense maneuver.
At the end of the race, the two-time champion gave his side of the story, explaining that he was pushed onto the grass when there was enough room for both of them to get through turn 4 without any problems. "I ended up in the grass, I don't know why he pushed me so much," Alonso told reporters present in Austria. "I had the DRS on the grass, full throttle, I had no way to defend myself."
"We were side by side, so I don't know. I feel it's better to avoid that kind of thing at 300 km/h, but that's okay," added the two-time champion, who finished the Austrian GP in tenth after starting 19th.
About the pace of the Alpine itself, Alonso explained that the race at the Red Bull Ring was complicated from the start because of the DRS rail that formed in the intermediate peloton, but he was quite satisfied and optimistic for the next stages of the calendar.
"We got stuck in the DRS train, and it was difficult to overtake. But I felt much faster than the others around me, so the performance of the car made me very satisfied and optimistic. The cars we fought against were slower compared to our pace, so this is a very good sign," finished Alonso.
