Alonso breaks 'gag law' and gets into trouble after offending FIA commissioners

According to the British broadcaster BBC, Fernando Alonso will have to explain himself to the FIA for calling the Miami GP commissioners "incompetent" after suffering the punishment that cost him the points. The Alpine Spaniard is understood to have violated the FIA's International Sporting Code with his insults

Fernando Alonso will have to explain himself to the FIA (International Automobile Federation) for calling the Miami GP commissioners "incompetent" after receiving a 5s punishment at the end of the race that cost him two points. The information was confirmed by the BBC.

The two-time champion's statement came during a press conference held Friday (20) in Barcelona. When asked about the penalty, Alonso did not spare criticism of the race management, saying that it was "something very unfair and incompetence of the commissioners," and accused them of "lack of professionalism.

The 'informal' complaint was forwarded to the commissioners, according to the British broadcaster. It is understood that Alonso's speech may have violated Articles 12.2.1 f and 12.2.1 k of the FIA's International Sporting Code. Article 12.2.1 f states that "any words, acts or writings which have caused moral damage or prejudice to the FIA, its bodies, its members or its directors, and moreover to the interest of motor racing and the values upheld by the FIA" can be seen as an infringement of the rules.

Article 12.2.If there is "any misconduct toward license holders, officials, officers or employees of the FIA, members of the organization or [racing] promoters, officials of competitors, doping control officials or any other person involved in doping control," it can also be considered a violation of FIA regulations.

Alonso has yet to comment on the repercussions of the case. The Alpine driver was seen chatting animatedly with FIA president Mohammed ben Sulayem in the paddock of the Circuit de Catalunya on Friday.

In the American race, Alonso was twice punished 5s. The first came for his touch with Pierre Gasly, which caused the AlphaTauri to break down and ended with a safety-car after the Frenchman hit Lando Norris. However, even with extra time on his account, the Spaniard appeared in ninth, finally returning to score points.

But the race direction, analyzing images after the race, considered that Alonso had committed another infraction when he left the track at turn 14 and gained an advantage on his return. Another 5s were added to his final time.

Alonso claimed that Alpine went to the commissioners with telemetry data to prove that he had not gained any kind of advantage, but that they were "already packing up." "When we got there, they said 'give us five minutes,' and then they turned around with their hands tied, probably because they had already issued the punishment and didn't know how to change the document."
